PowerPoint Pabulum

PowerPoint has become the bane of the consulting industry.

Used improperly, its very presence announces a dull presentation by a lazy presenter who isn't smart enough to memorize and deliver his or her lines. It is a crutch for those who lack personality or powers of persuasion.

The fact is, your audience can read faster than you can speak. If you are putting everything in your PowerPoint presentation, why are you there?  Mail it in.

A presentation is about two things: Passion and persuasion.  You want to convince someone you have a better idea, and to do this you have to demonstrate you believe in that idea.

So, what elements should go into a PowerPoint side?

1.    Use just a couple of words per slide.  Forget the silly rule of no more than seven lines per slide (The folks who created PowerPoint came up with that).

2.    The words you use should be key words that will move the presentation along - not words that help you remember your presentation.

3.    A strong, interesting, exciting visual that relates to your point.
That's all.  Try it.  If you do, we guarantee you will hear no more trombone yawns when you present.
